WLGA
9 Hole Match Play League Guidelines
2025
Coordinator: Sheri Underwood, sheribigcanoe@gmail.com, 770-880-0692
This event is open to all WLGA members in good standing as of March 5, 2025. This is a season long individual handicapped match play league running from April 1st through September 29th. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the season.
Sign-ups
Deadline for participants to sign up is April 1, 2025. A registration fee of $5.00 will be collected prior to the start of matches for the prize fund. Give your fee to the Coordinator.
Handicaps
Players will use their most current course handicap for all matches.
The Pro Shop will provide match play score cards with the appropriate “dots”. Notify the Pro Shop several hours in advance of your match and they will print your scorecard. Please review the “dots” on the scorecard prior to your match to make sure your correct handicap has been used. Use of an incorrect handicap in a match has a penalty of disqualification. Contact the Pro Shop if you have questions about determining your course handicap.
Tee Policy
Players will play from the Woodmont CC Front 9, Green Tees. If both players agree the Woodmont CC Back 9, Green Tees may be played.
Flights
Flights will be developed by handicap index. Handicap indexes as of April 1, 2025 will be used to determine flights.
Each player will play one match against each player in her flight. Order of finish in each flight will be determined by the total points won by each player. In the event of a tie for first place in each flight, the results of the head to head matches will be the primary tie breaker. If still tied, a playoff will determine the 1st place winners in each flight.
Schedule
It is the responsibility of the player to schedule her matches. A match can be played at any time and may also be played during a regular Play Day. However, the players may be placed in the last tee time and may not participate in any Play Day game for that day, since Match Play and Stroke Play have different rules. Match players must notify the Play Day Coordinator in advance if they wish to play a match during the Play Day.
Scoring
Scoring will be one point per hole. The player with the lower score (net handicap) on a hole will win 1 point. Half points will be awarded for ties. A total of 9 points will be awarded per match. Players must complete all 9 holes to complete a match. If a player defaults on a match, her opponent will be awarded all the points for the match. Players may agree to suspend and resume play of a match at any time for any reason without penalty. In the event a player must drop out due to a Medical Reason, points will be removed from all prior played matches.
All USGA rules will be in effect.
Results
When playing a match, only one scorecard should be used. By-hole results, including the hole scores, points, and holes won, should be clearly recorded on the scorecard for each match. If a player does not finish a hole because the hole/putt is conceded, the most likely score is recorded for the hole. Total points won by each player must be included on the scorecard. Return the scorecard to the Match Play envelope located in the Ladies Locker Room and the Coordinator will review and record it. After the Match, it is the player’s responsibility to promptly post her score in the GHIN system.
Point standings will be communicated monthly.
Disputes
If there is a rules dispute during a match, a player may make a claim for a ruling for a hole and continue play of the match. The player must state to her opponent that she wants a ruling and why (e.g. “I don’t think you can move that ball without penalty and I want a ruling.”) This must be done before teeing off on the next hole or before leaving the green of the final hole. After the match, the players may obtain a ruling from Phillip Westberry or contact Clare Clark via phone (513-218-7431) or email clark_clare@yahoo.com for a ruling.
Playoffs
Playoffs will take place after all matches are completed at the end of the season. The Coordinator will notify the players that qualify for playoffs and schedule the playoff matches.
